Bishop Jeremy Greaves has shared this week’s #SundayIsComing reflection — a short video to help us prepare our hearts for Sunday worship.
Reflection
In the parable of the vineyard, Jesus invites us to reimagine our relationship to what we have been given. The tenants’ tragic mistake was believing that they owned the vineyard, forgetting that it was entrusted to them to nurture and care for. This story echoes loudly in our modern world, where conflicts often arise from the misguided notion that land and resources are possessions rather than gifts to be stewarded. In a world marked by divisions over land and resources, the call to be stewards rather than owners offers a path toward peace and reconciliation.
This Gospel challenges us to reflect on our own lives. What have we mistakenly claimed ownership over? Our resources, communities, even our faith traditions? The invitation is to see everything as entrusted to us by God, to cultivate with justice, mercy, and compassion. It reminds us that our lives should bear fruit—not just for ourselves, but for the broader community, including those on the margins. Faith, then, becomes about loosening our grip on what we wrongly claim as ours, and embracing a shared journey of care and generosity.
A prayer for Sunday:
Loving God, as we gather this Sunday, open our hearts to the wisdom of Jesus’ story of the vineyard. Help us see the world not as a possession, but as a sacred trust. Inspire us to nurture what you have given us, producing the fruit of justice, peace, and compassion. Guide us to recognize the abundance in sharing, and let our lives reflect your grace. Amen.
